Communication Applications (Speech)
This course includes informative-persuasive speaking, demonstration speeches, and commercials. Required for graduation.

Speech Communications - Speech 1311 (Concurrent College)
A study of the communication process and an analysis of contemporary speech-making theory with application in planning, organizing and delivering all types of speeches and performing effectively in small group communication. (This class is offered on the Hudson HS campus and student will earn 3 college hours.)

Broadcast Journalism
This class includes individual and team projects exploring mixed media with emphasis on radio/television broadcast programming, film, and production.

Prerequisite: Speech
Grade: 10th - 12th
Credit: 1 unit

Journalism 1
Basic journalism techniques and procedures, as well as photographic techniques, will be addressed. The communication process, layout and design, photography, business skills, law of the press, and the history of journalism will be a part of this class. The class will concentrate on feature, news, and editorial writing and desktop publishing. The Spring semester is guided toward UIL competition. Class may have some input into the newspaper production but will not directly be involved with school publications.

Newspaper
Production of the student magazine, newspaper, and video. This class includes planning, writing, artwork, proofing, layout, photography, photographic reproduction, desktop publishing, editing, distribution, and advertising.

Prerequisite: Selection by instructor
Credit: 1 unit

Advanced Journalism/Yearbook
This course teaches and applies the journalistic writing, editing, and graphic skills necessary to produce the yearbook. Students develop new skill judgment, fact gathering, journalistic writing, headline writing, photo journalism, caption writing, graphic design and layout, proofing, editing, and advertising skills. Applications are available from the instructor.
