Apparel
This is a laboratory course that focuses on apparel from the
perspectives of personal decision making related to apparel,
the apparel industry, and career preparation.

Personal
and Family Development
This laboratory course is all inclusive of the composition of
the home economics discipline. Students may expect to acquire
beginning knowledge and skills related to family living, child
development, clothing and textiles, housing management, consumer
economics and responsibilities, food and nutrition, personal
and family health, and the relationship between the home and
the work place. Emphasis is placed on taking responsibilities
for actions, decision making, managing resources, and career
opportunities and preparation requirements.

Nutrition
and Food Science
This
course includes a strong component in nutrition as it relates
to dietary functions through the family cycle, special dietary
needs, and nutrient sources. Safety, sanitation, and nutrient
retention during food preparation are addressed. It covers cultural
influence on food patterns, management techniques, and careers
in food and nutrition occupations. Concepts and skills related
to managing the dual roles of homemaker and wage earner are
emphasized.

Science and Technology
This
laboratory course provides in-depth study of the significance
of nutrition in food science. It addresses the knowledge and
skills needed to study food science. It addresses the knowledge
and skills needed to study food science, processing, marketing,
and technology involved in food/nutrition. The opportunities
in food and nutrition occupational area are also explored.

Preparation
for Parenting
This
is a laboratory course that focuses on parenthood education.
The relationship between parenting behavior, children's behavior
and child development is shown. Student may expect to acquire
background information regarding parenting responsibilities,
skills for effective parenting, and how careers affect the family.
The course also focuses on special parenting issues such as
single parenting, step-parenting, children in crises, and abusive
parenting behaviors.

Child
Development
This
is a laboratory course that provides the opportunity for students
to acquire knowledge and skills related to the development and
care of children. The content begins with impact of parenting
on the individual(s). It develops concepts related to prenatal
and postnatal care, the development of children (including opportunities
for making decisions), and child care guidance techniques. The
course provides in-depth study related to career and job opportunities
related to children.

Culinary
Arts
This
course provides occupationally specific training. Instruction
will be delivered through school-based laboratory training,
mentoring, and job shadowing. This class will cover structure
of the food production and service industry. Students will implement
organizational goals, policies, and procedures of food production,
management, and service. Students will utilize marketing strategies,
legal considerations of the food industry, safe and sanitation
techniques, and quality food production. Job success in food
production and career opportunities and preparation are highly
stressed.
