What is MOUS certification and how is it obtained?

Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) certification is becoming recognized by more and more employers as the standard for desktop proficiency. MOUS certification is obtained by selecting one out of three levels of participation (Proficient Specialist, Expert Specialist, and Office Expert) and preparing for and passing an exam. Passing just one exam for any Microsoft Office application (Word, Excel, Access, or Powerpoint) will receive the Proficient Specialist or Expert Specialist certification. To receive the Office Expert certification, the highest level attainable, requires passing four expert-level exams and the office integration exam.
